NDC, NPP polarising nation - Ms Abaidoo

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Ms Abaidoo, who is also a community development activist, opined that “we should not see politics as a means of dividing the nation or electorate, but sharing ideas for national and community development as well as respect each other.”

She described the boycott of selected proceedings in Parliament by the NPP as not healthy and expressed the hope that the NPP would revise its stand and participate actively in parliamentary activities.

She also reminded all parliamentarians that “being an MP, you do not only represent your political party but the entire constituency which is made up of all shades of people.”

She, therefore, challenged all parliamentarians to take the welfare of their constituencies into consideration while performing their day to day functions in Parliament.

“We still have a lot of work to do to move this nation forward and we can only succeed if we are disciplined and work as a team,” she declared.

She also challenged Ghanaians to respect “our President once constitutionally elected.”

In so doing, she called on the electorate, communities and the civil society to take active interest in monitoring the performance of those elected into political office.

She further called on the National Commission for Civic Education to team up with identifiable groupings such as dressmakers, tailors, beauticians, among others to embark on community education for the people to understand and appreciate issues around them.

“We must sensitise the Ghanaian people on their civic responsibilities so as to check the excesses of politicians and those in authority,” she stated.

She further said that it is development that is needed in our society. She said it is important that we all play our duties to help the nation achieve its goals.

Ms Abaidoo thanked her constituents for their support, saying “though i did not win the seat, I am very grateful to my constituents and I look forward to working even more closely with them.”

She also congratulated Mr Ahmed Arthur of the NPP for winning the constituency seat and, therefore, challenged him to serve the interest of his constituents faithfully and not engage in what she called “pick and choose politics.”

She mentioned problems facing market women in the constituency, street children, slum areas and the lack of social amenities and expressed the hope that the newly elected MP would help to find solutions.
