The newly elected Chief Executive of the Tema Municipal Assembly, Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten has been sworn in by the Greater Accra Regional Minister Mr Julius Debrah at his office in Accra.
Present at the ceremony were Mr Ade Coker, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress and some assembly members from the Tema municipality.
On Wednesday, the Tema Metropolitan Assembly confirmed the President’s nominee, Mr Odametten, as MCE at a special general assembly meeting held in Tema.
He polled 73.81 per cent to become the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive.
Total votes cast was 44, out of which the nominee had 31 with 13 voting against him.
The hall was filled with Members of Parliament in the Greater Accra Region, chiefs, ministers, among others.
The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kwesi Oppong Fosu, expressed the gratitude of the President to the assembly for confirming his nominee to help in the continuation of development projects in the Tema Metropolis.
He said Tema was built to be a model city in the West African sub–region, and added that ‘it was the vision of the President to bring it back to its status’’.
Mr Oppong Fosu urged the gathering to give the MCE their support to help develop Tema.
The MCE thanked the assembly for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work hard and ensure that Tema became what it was built to be.
Mr Odamtten said with diligence, accountability, and avoiding nepotism, he would, together with all the assembly members, staff and residents ensure that Tema achieved its goals.
Earlier, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Julius Debrah, had called on the assembly members to give Mr Odamtten the nod to lead the crusade to develop Tema.
He said the system the government was operating now was to allow everyone bring on board his skills, hence the need to replace appointees. He explained that “nobody should think Mr Ofosuware faulted and therefore was removed”.
Mr Debrah said it would be appropriate to give their support to Mr Odamtten to continue with the good work of his predecessor.
He gave the assurance that the people around him would get to like him when they started working together.
The Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Romeo Akahoho, expressed the gratitude of the assembly to the President for nominating Mr Odamtten.
He gave the assurance that the assembly would offer its support and work with him to realise the objectives of the metropolis.
Present to witness the confirmation were Mr E.T Mensah, MP for Prampram and the Paramount Chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku.
