Politicians misleading electorate — Daasebre Ewusi VII

The President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, has expressed worry at the way some politicians are misleading the electorate instead of guiding them to make informed choices.

“Must the electorate live on the whims of politicians because politicians are seeking to lead them? Shouldn’t it be the other way round where the electorate are made to call the shots instead of the politician?” Daasebre Ewusi queried.

Education

Daasebre Ewusi, who is also the Paramount Chief of the Abeadze Dominase Traditional Area in the Central Region, was speaking at the launch of the 20th anniversary of his ascension to the throne.

He also called on the political parties that would be participating in this year’s election to endeavour to campaign on issues devoid of insults.

“Must the country come to a halt because we will go to the polls this year? Why must people be made to fight each other because they support opposing views? Is that what politics should be about?” Daasebre Ewusi asked.

The programme also saw the launch of the 2016 Ahobaakese festival, which would come off in August at Abeadze Dominase on a theme related to education.

Daasebre Ewusi said his aim was to mobilise resources to support the various educational intervention programmes being undertaken by the traditional authority.

According to him, education has become a pillar to community and economic development, hence the need to ensure the necessary structures are in place to achieve set goals.

Daasebre Ewusi, who is said to have singlehandedly constructed the Abeadze State Community College in the Abeadze to give secondary education to the community’s teeming youth wishing to attain a second cycle education, appealed to the government to endeavour to support communities that had taken such initiatives to reduce endemic poverty.

“The government is undertaking the building of community secondary schools to expand the scope of education, but we believe the same government could take over the management of the existing ones developed through the efforts of communities”.

“It is for this reason the traditional authority is willing to donate a 15-acre land for the purposes of the construction of a college of education by the government in the community,” Daasebre Ewusi said.

Regional minister

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Kweku Rickets Hagan, lauded Daasebre Ewusi for the tremendous development projects he had initiated in his community and the region as a whole.

He was of the view that the establishment of a college of education ought to have the needed infrastructure in place, and the decision of Daasebre Ewusi and his traditional council to allocate land for such purpose was welcome news, and that “the government would consider the proposal”.
