Politicians must pursue service — Manly-Spain

A  Leading Member of the National Democratic Congress in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, has appealed to politicians and persons in authority to pursue service, truth and compassion rather than power, lies and indifference.

“It is my hope and prayer that the death of Jesus Christ will compel politicians to love their enemies rather than hate, to forgive rather than condemn, to reconcile rather than divide and to serve others sacrificially rather than serve themselves selfishly,” he stated.

In an Easter message, Mr Manly-Spain expressed the wish that politicians would use Christ’s life to lead the nation through love, desire to please and the mind to honour  their responsibilities to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.

He said the dates of Good Friday and Easter Sunday on the Christian calendar had a fairly marginal influence on national life.

Yet in the view of Mr Manly-Spain, the impact of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection goes beyond religious observance and extends far and wide.

“Jesus’ last words on the cross, forgiving the thief, made it clear that the offer of eternal life is open to all and not based on good works but on trusting what He has done for us on the cross,” he stated.

He said Jesus Christ’s life, death and resurrection were central to the Christian life, including the reason for being involved in politics; saying, “It also means politicians can pray with conviction the words that have been spoken by prophets for many years.”
