President Akufo-Addo confident about his legacy as he prepares to leave office  

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed optimism that history will favourably judge his tenure as he approaches the end of his presidency on January 7, 2025.  

Speaking at the launch of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana's Bicentennial Anniversary on Sunday, December 22, the President reflected on his administration's achievements and reaffirmed his belief in the transformative impact of his policies.

Despite his party's presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, losing the 2024 general elections, President Akufo-Addo maintained that his government has delivered commendable outcomes across key sectors.  

“I speak to you proud of the achievements my government has chalked under God’s guidance and the support of our people,” President Akufo-Addo said. “From transformative policies in education, health, industry, infrastructure, and agriculture, to the promotion of good governance and economic development."  

The President highlighted numerous social interventions in health, education, and energy, emphasizing their positive effects on the quality of life for Ghanaians.  

“I’m confident in all humility, prosperity will judge well the Akufo-Addo government’s performance. Future generations will look back on this era and say that we laid a strong foundation for progress and prosperity,” he added.  

Acknowledging the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s role in the country’s development over the past two centuries, President Akufo-Addo praised its contributions to education, healthcare, and moral development.  

“The impact of the gospel is not only seen in schools and hospitals but in the moral fibre of our people,” he said. “As President, I have often drawn strength and wisdom from the word of God...Throughout my tenure of office, the Presbyterian Church has been a steadfast partner praying for me, encouraging me, and supporting my government’s vision of national transformation. For this, I’m deeply grateful.”  

The President expressed personal gratitude for the church’s prayers and support during his administration, noting their influence in helping him navigate challenging times.  

“Your prayers have sustained me, and your faith has inspired me to persevere even in the most challenging times,” he concluded.
