Prez Akufo-Addo lauds Kufuor, GJA
The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has lauded former President John Agyekum Kufuor for his award of the first- ever Wilberforce World Freedom Medal from the University of Hull’s Wilberforce Institute.
The award is in recognition of his “huge contribution to really putting Ghana on the map, politically and socially”, and also “raising its profile as a centre of democracy and good governance.”

A statement signed by President Akufo-Addo and issued to the press in Accra said the Ghanaian people acknowledged with gratitude the honour that had been done them by this award, and congratulate former President Kufuor “on this well-deserved recognition’’.
It invoked God’s continued blessing, long life and good health on Mr Kufuor.
GJA Elections
In a related development, the President has also extended warm congratulations to the entire membership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for the successful conduct of their elections of Friday, September 27, which saw the selection of executive to steer the affairs of the association for the next four years.
“I congratulate Affail Monney on his decisive re-election as President of the GJA; Linda Asante Agyei as Vice President; Edmund Kofi Yeboah as General Secretary; Mary Mensah in charge of Public Affairs; and Albert Tuffuor as Organising Secretary. The losing aspirants are also to be commended for graciously conceding defeat,’’ the statement said.
The statement expressed the President’s hope that ‘’the Ghana Journalists Association and its leadership, over the next four years, will continue to contribute to the growth of a vibrant and critical media that has won Ghana the reputation of having one of the most media friendly and liberal climates on the continent, and also to the enhancement of public accountability as a strategic goal of public policy’’.
