PV Obeng morgue photo: Go easy on Daily Guide - Kwesi Pratt

The Managing Editor of The Insight newspaper, Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has called on media houses to address matters carefully before passing their judgement.

Mr. Pratt says that the death of PV Obeng has exposed a national hypocrisy which needs to be addressed.

He said the death of the former Senior Presidential Advisor to President Mahama, has paved way for some media houses and the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) to harshly criticise the Daily Guide newspaper.

Mr. Pratt’s comments follow the Daily Guide's publication of a picture which showed Mr. PV Obeng's mortal remains lying on stretcher at the morgue.

He said although the publication is a violation of the GJA Code of Ethics which should be condemned, media houses must be circumspect in their criticism of the newspaper.

According to Mr. Pratt, there have been many instances where media houses published photos of dead bodies and other horrific pictures that inflicted emotional pain on the public and the families of the deceased, yet they (the media houses) were not reprimanded for such acts.

“Therefore it is unfair to single out Daily Guide for condemnation”, Mr Pratt said.

The Insight Managing Editor was speaking on Radio Gold’s current affairs programme, Alhaji and Alhaji.
