The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has established an 11-member committee, chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye.
They are to examine the reasons behind the party’s defeat in the 2024 general election and outline strategies for recovery.
Members of the committee, comprising distinguished academics, experienced politicians, and strategic thinkers, includes Prof Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu, Prof Kofi Osei Akuoko, Prof Samuel Bert Boadi-Kubi, Dr Felix Yamoah, Dr Joseph Agyapong Darmoe, Mr F.F. Anto, Mr Kwaku Domfe, Gifty Kusi, Abdulai Abanga, Seidu Nasigri, and William Yamoah.
The formation of the 11-member committee was sanctioned during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Accra on Wednesday, January 2, 2025.
The committee’s mandate involves conducting a thorough review of the factors that led to the electoral defeat, consulting with stakeholders such as grassroots supporters, party members, and political analysts, and proposing actionable recommendations to strengthen the party for future elections.
The party leadership has emphasized the need for collective support from members and stakeholders to ensure the success of the committee’s work. Full cooperation across all levels of the party is crucial for a comprehensive investigation and impactful recommendations, a statement issued by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong indicated.
Tasked with immediate action, the committee’s findings are expected to shape the NPP’s recovery strategy and influence critical decisions going forward. As the party navigates this challenging phase, the committee’s work will serve as a foundational step in restoring the NPP’s position within Ghana’s political landscape, the General Secretary added.
