Accordingly, all regional ministers have been requested to remind all MMDAs and all unit committees in their regions, with the exception of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, that having been inaugurated into office on March 15, 2011, their tenure ends on March 14, 2015.

A notice signed by a Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Edwin Nii Vandepuye, to all regional ministers, said in pursuant to Article 246 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, the MMDAs were dissolved by the close of work on March 14, 2015.

The notice emphasised that “pending the conduct of District Level Elections this year, to enable the successor assemblies to be constituted, metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) shall be responsible for the day-to-day performance of the executive and administrative functions of their assemblies under Article 243 (2) (b) and (c) of the Constitution and Section 20 (3) (b) (c) and (d) of the Local Government Act, 1993 (Act 462)”.

MMDCEs have, however, been directed not to take any decision that requires the approval of the MMDAs or their respective executive committees, the notice stated.
