We have agreed to inaugurate joint transitional team on Wednesday Dec 11 - Mahama's victory speech

The President-elect, John Dramani Mahama has said he has agreed with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to inaugurate a joint transitional team on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

In a victory speech on Monday night, moments after the Electoral Commission declared him winner of the 2024 presidential election, Mr Mahama said President Akufo-Addo has called him to congratulate.

Following that, the two of them discussed a number of issues including how to proceed on the transition.

Kester Aburam Korankye reports President-elect emphasised his commitment to delivering good governance to the people of Ghana, promising to rule with humility and integrity. 

He emphasised that Ghanaians have zero tolerance for bad governance, citing his landslide victory as a testament to the people's desire for accountable leadership.

The President-Elect arrived at his private office in Cantonment in Accra, at about 7:30 pm in the company of his wife, Lordina Mahama and their children.

Mr Mahama was also flanked by the Vice President-elect, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

Present to witness the victory speech were national executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former government appointees and members of the NDC including the National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey,

Others were former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, former senior policy advisor, Valerie Sawyerr, former Minister of Finance, Seth Tekpe, former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Armah Ashietey and former Minister of Communications, Haruna Iddrisu among others. 

Appreciation 

Mr Mahama begun his speech by thanking Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for his concession speech after the election saying it was a peaceful gesture. 

He also announced that he had received a call from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo congratulating him for winning Saturday’s election.

Mr Mahama said he discussed with President Akufo-Addo the transitional arrangements ahead and agreed to start on Wednesday.
