Fiorentina chase Muntari

Reports in Italy suggest that Serie A side Fiorentina are reportedly keen on Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari.

The Black Star was released from his AC Milan contract earlier this week, despite still having a year to run on his deal,

However, he may not be a free agent for long, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that the Viola are keen on the tenacious international star.

The transfer expert has noted that Daniele Prade—the club’s sporting director—is an admirer of the 30-year-old, and would love to see him in Tuscany next season.

While Fiorentina are not as illustrious a club as Milan, there is a case to be made that the move would not represent a considerable step down for Muntari. Indeed, Fiorentina will be competing in the Europa League next season after finishing fourth in Serie A, six places and 12 points better off than Milan.

Despite his troubled season in Lombardy, the appeal of the Ghana star to Fiorentina is easy to understand.

Still only 30, the player ought to have several good years of football still ahead of him, while as a former Champions League and Serie A winner, he can boast of the kind of experience that few in the current squad can currently refer to.

Should Fiorentina not make concrete their reported interest, the midfielder is unlikely to be short of suitors.

Several English teams—including Everton and Queens Park Rangers—have been linked to his signature, while West Ham United could also offer Muntari a route back into continental competition.

Various Major League Soccer teams have also reportedly expressed interest in the former Portsmouth and Sunderland man, although it remains to be seen if any will take a risk on a particularly high-maintenance competitor.
