Kotoko win in Kumasi as fans chase reporters

A controversial penalty awarded Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the dying minutes of their Premier League encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi gave them a 1-0 win over visiting Dreams FC.

The otherwise happy ending for the Kotoko supporters was nealy marred as some supporters decided to attack some radio commentators who had questioned the judgement of referee Nathan Anafo in awarding the penalty to the homesters.

One of them, Emmanuel Opoku of GEM FM, was subjected to severe beatings and thrown down from the floor that houses the Press Gallery, resulting in him sustaining injuries.

Though there were a number of police officers around, it was only some officers of the Ghana Fire Service who tried to intervene but they failed in their bid. Opoku was saved by workers of the National Ambulance Service who whisked him away in on ambulance.

In the match both sides had wasted glorious chances, with Kotoko being the worse culprit.

And as it appeared a goal was remote for the Porcupine Warriors, their midfielder Emmanuel Gyenfi appeared to have feigned injury in the 18 yard of Dreams in the 88th minute and Referee Nathan Anafo obliged him as he whistled for a penalty.

Skipper Amos Frimpong expertly converted the kick to give the homesters the victory.
