McCarthy’s revival good for Dreams — Damba

Newly-recruited Dreams FC goalkeeper, Philemon McCarthy, is gradually endearing himself to both fans and handlers of the club.

Since joining the club during the second transfer window, McCarthy’s experience and dexterity in the goalkeeping department have helped his team to excel in their last three games against Accra Hearts of Oak, New Edubiase and Medeama SC.

A fortnight ago, the former Black Stars goalkeeper slotted home a volley to record a vital 2-0 win over New Edubiase in their Week 17 fixture at Dawu.

The former Hearts goalkeeper’s heroics have made him the preferred choice ahead of the likes of Mozart Adjetey and Ishawu Yahaya, who joined the team at the start of the season.

Goalkeepers’ trainer, Abubakar Damba, believes McCarthy’s recent output has raised the level of competition among the goalkeepers in camp, with the rest trying to outdo each other for the number one spot.

According to Damba, who was  appointed last  month to replace Cephas Tsiforkor, maintaining a healthy competition is a positive attitude that can help them to live up to expectation whenever they are called to duty.

“I have worked with McCarthy both at training and outside training from our days at Accra Hearts of Oak and I know his capabilities. I know he looks ready for the job than the other two but if they give him a stiff competition for the spot, they will get their chances,” he told the Graphic Sports.
