Former Ghana and Ajax midfielder Yakubu Abubakari dies aged 35

Former Ghana And Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Yakubu Abubakar has passed on in his native country Ghana after battling some illness.

Yakubu who died on Tuesday afternoon at the age of 35 is reported to have been under oxygen support at the Tema Government Hospital before his demise.

Tamale Sports Stadium to be named after late Alhaji Aliu Mahama – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has indicated that the Tamale Sports Stadium will be renamed the “Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium”, in honour of the late Vice President of the Republic, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, and in fulfilment of a campaign pledge made in the run up to the December 2016 elections. 

According to President Akufo-Addo, the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama “had so much to do with it (Tamale Sports Stadium) and I think it will be a proper monument to him, testimony to his contribution.”

Ghana’s Under-20 female football team, Black Princesses, will host Kenya in the first leg of the second round of the 2018 Women’s  World Cup qualifier at the Cape Coast Stadium this Sunday.

The two sides advanced to this stage after winning their respective first round matches, with Ghana edging out Algeria, while Kenya beat Ethiopia.

Premier League champions, Aduana Stars, will be crowned with the 2016/2017 Premier League title at a coronation ceremony at Dormaa-Ahenkro on Sunday.

Mary Prempeh of the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi produced a two-day stunning performance to win the topmost prize of the maiden edition of the Stanbic Bank- Otumfuo Invitational tournament in Kumasi, as Emos Korblah was unblemished in the professional category.

After an immaculate tee-off, Mary was consistent in her delivery over the 36-hole competition which attracted over 120 golfers in the handicap division and 26 professionals across the country.

Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan came off the bench to score a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser for Kayserispor against Fenerbahce in an entertaining 3-3 draw on Monday night.

Gyan replaced Ryan Mendes in the 73rd minute with his side trailing 3-2 but a close-range header secured a valuable point for his side at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadi.

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye has been laid to rest at the Tangora Road Cemetery in Burkina Faso, two days after he succumbed to illness on Friday night (October 27, 2017) aged 37.

The service for the former Burkina Faso international, a practicing Muslim was held in line with Islamic rites, including preaching and a prayer to the dead led by an Imam.

In attendance at the ceremony on Sunday were a huge crowd of friends, supporters, former players and the highest authorities of sport in Burkina Faso.

The former Nottingham Forest and Bristol Rovers striker suffered the stroke in January 2015 soon after retiring from football, this subsequently led to Aphasia, which severely affects a person’s ability to use language.
