Starlets set for Abu Dhabi training camp

The national under 17 football team, the Black Starlets will leave Accra on Wednesday for the United Arab Emirates’ capital of Abu Dhabi for a training camp ahead of their FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign in India next month.

The Black Starlets were initially scheduled to travel to Denmark to round up their preparations for the tourney but strict visa requirements from the Danish Embassy in Accra changed their plans to settle for Abu Dhabi instead.

Cycling: First Lady endorses HFC-Infanta tour

The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has endorsed the HFC-Infanta Ride Out Malaria Tour which is aimed at creating awareness of a cleaner Ghana and raising funds towards the building of a Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compound at Nyanshegu, a suburb of Tamale, Northern Region.

At a short briefing last Thursday, the First Lady was pleased with the plans and preparations made towards the cycling event which will see cyclists ride a 668-kilometre tour from Tamale to Accra on September 15- 23.

Princesses to play Algeria in 2018 U-20 WWC qualifier

Ghana’s Under-20 female football team, the Black Princesses, will begin their 2018 Women’s World Cup (WWC) qualifiers against Algeria on Friday.

The Princesses will play the first leg away to the Algerians and host the second leg next week in Accra.

NWL final matches on Saturday

The 2017 National Women’s League (NWL) ends this Saturday with the final round of matches set to be played simultaneously at all match venues.

The matches, which were to have been played over the weekend, were postponed as the referees indicated their unavailability due to their fitness test in Kumasi at the same time.

AMA boss launches Accra Marathon

The Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mr Mohammed Adjei Sowah, last Thursday launched the Accra Marathon and expressed the hope that it would set high standards of sporting excellence in West Africa.

He said the AMA was a partner of the October 7 event which was expected to attract an estimated 10,000 runners and will be used to promote a healthy, vibrant city - Accra.

All eyes on Black Stars B as they open WAFU Cup against Scorpions

The national local-based senior side, Black Stars B, will be aiming to redeem their image when they play host to Gambia this afternoon in the opening game of the WAFU Nations Cup tournament at the Cape Coast Stadium.

After failing to qualify for next year's African Nations Championship (CHAN), losing 3-4 on aggregate to Burkina Faso, Black Stars B will have an opportunity to appease Ghanaians by getting off their WAFU Cup campaign on a winning note and claiming the ultimate title on September 24.

Govt to send supporters to FIFA U-17 world cup

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah has announced government's preparedness to transport fans to the 2017 FIFA U-17 if they are able to present a united front for the Championship.

According to the Minister, government has advised the various national supporters unions to unite in order to receive support from government.

Starlets can win World Cup — Nyantakyi

Kwesi Nyantakyi, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), believes the national U-17 team, the Black Starlets, have the quality to win next month's FIFA U-17 World Cup in India.

Nyantakyi believed that the additional players in the Starlets team would help improve the squad, coupled with the right preparation towards the competition.

Black Stars B defender, Amos Frimpong, is confident the team is on the path of hosting and winning this year’s WAFU competition as they play the Gambia in the opening game at the Cape Coast Stadium tomorrow.
