The 22-year-old was caught leaving the Olympic Village without authorisation with fellow swimmer Gabriel Santos.

The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) announced the pair had committed "acts of indiscipline" and would face punishment. While Santos received a warning, Vieira was dismissed from the Brazilian delegation.

The incident occurred on the night of the opening ceremony, with the pair leaving the village without permission. Vieira's subsequent reaction to the punishment was described as "disrespectful and aggressive".

Prior to her dismissal, Vieira had competed in the 4x100m freestyle relay, finishing 12th overall.

The head coach of the Brazilian swimming team, Gustavo Otsuka, revealed that Vieira's reaction to the team line-up for the relay had also contributed to the decision to send her home. He emphasised the importance of representing Brazil and its taxpayers.

In a social media post, Vieira expressed her disappointment at leaving the Games. However, her actions have overshadowed what was clearly a difficult decision for the Brazilian Olympic Committee.
