Nigeria's Super Falcons exit Paris 2024 Olympics after 3-1 loss to Japan
Nigeria's senior women's football team, Super Falcons have been eliminated from the Paris 2024 women's football competition after losing 3-1 to Japan in their last Group C game at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes on Wednesday, July 31.
After back-to-back losses to Brazil (1-0) and Spain (1-0), the Super Falcons needed a two-goal margin victory over the Asians who needed just a draw to progress.

However, the Nigerian's dream ended after succumbing to Japan's three first half goals courtesy of Maika Hamano (22nd minute), Mina Tanaka (32nd minute) and Hikaru Kitagawa (45'+5').
Midfielder Jennifer Echegini scored Nigeria's consolation goal in the 42 minute.
Nigeria were bottom of the group with zero points having lost all three matches, conceding five times and scoring once.
Nigeria last participated in the women’s football event of the Olympics 16 years ago.
In the other Group C match, Spain saw off Brazil 2-0 to win the lot. Japan finished second on the table while Brazil ended the show as the third-placed side.
