AFCON 2023: Chris Hughton names 11 Ghana Premier League stars in Black Stars squad
Ghana's national football team, the Black Stars, is gearing up for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with an initial squad of 55 players that includes 11 home-based players who play in the Ghana Premier League.
The provisional 55-man squad announced by CAF and the GFA today will be trimmed to 26 players for the tournament in Ivory Coast and it features a notable representation of talent from the domestic league.

Five players from Medeama SC, including Jonathan Sowah, Fatawu Hamidu, Abdulai Nurudeen, Derrick Kyei, and goalkeeper Felix Kyei, have earned their spots in the squad.

In addition to the Medeama contingent, Great Olympics contributes duo Benjamin Asare and Emmanuel Antwi, while Dreams FC's John Antwi and Godfred Atuahene add depth to the roster. Raazak Simpson of Nations FC and Richmond Lamptey of Asante Kotoko complete the lineup of home-based players.
Coach Chris Hughton faces the task of narrowing down his selection to the final 26 players, a decision that will shape the Black Stars' campaign in the highly anticipated tournament.
