Algeria weather won’t affect us—Coach Walker

Black Galaxies coach, Annor Walker, has downplayed the effect of the Algerian weather on their chances at the Championship of Africa Nations (CHAN) competition.

Even though the Ghanaian team are facing a change in weather from a hot temperature in Ghana to a relatively cold weather in Constantine, Algeria, the Ghanaian gaffer hopes it would not be an excuse for his team to underperform.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanafa.org, the coach said they were in Algeria to deliver and therefore believed the players would psyche themselves for the challenge.

“It’s quite colder in Constantine but we are here to do our job. The players understand that this is their job and they have to cope and work on it.

“We are managing in the weather conditions and we are prepared to play. Psychologically, when the players get to the pitch they will play their normal game irrespective of the weather. We will do our job” , Coach Walker assured.

The Galaxies coach also disclosed that they aimed to play in the final after twice missing out on the trophy in 2009 and 2014 hoping that this time round they would not only play in the final but also win the trophy.

“We have been unsuccessful in two finals but that’s past and gone. Now we want to get to the finals again and lift the trophy this time round. The past is behind us and we are focused on what is ahead of us,” the coach noted.

Coach Walker said his motivation for coming into the competition was to win but was focusing on the group stage to ensure he came out of it and then work towards winning the ultimate.

“Nobody competes and says I am here to lose. I am here to exhibit what I can do. I am ready to get to the final and if it goes well for us, we will win the cup. However, now I am focused on the group stage before I think about the next stage of the competition,” he said.
