Aussie-born Ghanaian set for Stars
An Australian born Ghanaian striker, Joshua Kweifio Okai, who plays for the Richmond Soccer Club in the Victoria Premier League in Australia, has expressed his immense interest to don Ghana's national jersey.
Joshua, who began his football career at the tender age of five with the Australian club, said he turned down the chance to play for the Australian national team because of his desire to play for Ghana.
Speaking to the Graphic Sports in the presence of his father,Dr George Kweifio Okai, a lecturer with the Business Endeavour College of Natural Health in Australian, Joshua said he had been playing football and would be happy the day he would be invited to play for Ghana.
Mr Kuku Dsane, his manager, said he started monitoring the performance of Joshua when he was very young and it was his wish that he would be invited to play for the national team.
''We have lost so many great players such as Joshua who could play for our national teams to other countries, he said .
He said you could not just imagine Jereome Boateng, Balotelli, Danny Welbeck and many others wearing the jersey of Ghana's national team.
Mr Dsane said Joshua was brought to spend his holidays in Ghana to deepen his desire to play for the country and also to let some stakeholders in the game in Ghana to know him better.
He said they were assured by the GFA to invite him to justify his inclusion for the next Olympic Games.
Joshua had already paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Mr Alex Gyimah of the Ghana Football Association, and members of the Liberty Professional Football Club at Dansoman.
