Bismark Ntiedu Dapaah, Letitia Amponsah-Mensah shine at ASHRAE Ghana Golf Challenge
A strong field of golfers converged at the Celebrity Golf Club over the weekend as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Ghana staged its maiden golf challenge, blending sport with professional networking in a tournament organisers say will become a fixture on the calendar.
Close to 150 participants from across the built environment and corporate sectors competed in the Stableford-format event, which was designed to deepen relationships among industry players while offering a relaxed platform for engagement beyond the workplace.
In the Men’s Group A category, Bismark Ntiedu Dapaah emerged winner with an impressive 37 points, edging a competitive field that included Isaac Aninakwah and Clement Owusu-Darko . The broader men’s competition saw Dennis Etwi-Barimah top Group B with 39 points, while George Addai matched that score to lead Group C .

The ladies’ competition delivered equally compelling performances, with Letitia Amponsah-Mensah claiming victory in Group A with 33 points, while Roberta Trzebinski topped Group B after a countback tie at 35 points . In the seniors’ division, Samuel Tetteh Korboe secured top honours with 36 points after countback, narrowly beating Paul Okoe Ayitiah .

Reflecting on the event, former ASHRAE Ghana Vice President, Engineer Ato Roberts, said the initiative was aimed at fostering collaboration within the built environment sector.
“Foster partnerships, foster relationship between professionals. So this platform is supposed to enable us bring various people together to know what we do in the built environment, so that they know that what we do serves their purposes and serves their interest,” he said.
He acknowledged the effort required to organise such an event, noting that professionals in the sector rarely find time for recreational engagement. “It’s something we don’t do often… we usually have to make extra effort to find the time to come out to the field to play and to meet our customers and the like,” he said, adding that the maiden edition had exceeded expectations.
“It’s been excellent. It’s been perfect, and you’re already thinking of what to do next year,” he added, signalling plans to expand the tournament.
For Letitia Amponsah-Mensah, the victory marked a personal resurgence after a difficult run of form. “I’m reliving my life again. For some time I’ve been playing so terribly, so I wasn’t even expecting this result… I feel very, very, very happy,” she said.
She praised the organisation and sponsorship of the event, describing it as one of the most rewarding competitions on the local circuit. “The prizes are quite impressive… we are so overwhelmed, and we are very grateful to the sponsors,” she noted, expressing optimism for an even bigger edition next year.
Men’s Group A winner Bismark Ntiedu Dapaah also highlighted the importance of sponsorship and regular play in achieving success. “It feels good… when we get sponsors like this, it’s always a great occasion, and I feel very blessed to be the winner here,” he said.
He added that preparation remains central to performance in competitive golf. “When you practice, you practice for the competition… you have to practice before you can win,” he said, although he admitted he did not enter the event expecting victory.

The ASHRAE Ghana Golf Challenge ultimately delivered a blend of competition, camaraderie and industry engagement, with participants already looking ahead to a bigger and more competitive second edition next year.
