CAF and UEFA sign landmark MoU to boost football development in Africa and Europe

Confederation of African Football (CAF) and UEFA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration and drive the growth of football across Africa and Europe.

The agreement was formalised in Vancouver, Canada, by CAF President Patrice Motsepe and UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin.

The partnership, which runs until June 2031, focuses on key areas including youth and women’s football development, coaching education, refereeing, and institutional capacity building.

It also promotes knowledge exchange through joint programmes, observer roles at major tournaments, and collaborative training initiatives in football medicine and governance.

Under the agreement, African and European member associations will benefit from shared expertise, participation in competitions, and long-term development projects aimed at strengthening football structures across both continents.

Dr Motsepe described the MoU as a step toward elevating African football to global standards, highlighting its role in deepening historic ties and creating opportunities for players and stakeholders.

Mr Čeferin also emphasized the importance of the partnership in expanding access to football, particularly for youth and women, while reinforcing the sport’s social impact.

The MoU underscores a shared vision by both bodies to use football as a tool for unity, inclusion, and sustainable development worldwide.
