Caterers were paid $17,200 — Fred Darko

The Project Coordinator of Ghana Brazil 2014 World Cup, Fred Darko, says each of the three caterers employed by the committee to cook for the supporters sent to Brazil to support the Black Stars received $17,200 as service charge.

The payment, according to him, was made for the services provided by the caterers, who also came along with three workers each. However, it excludes, the use of their utensils, foodstuffs, accommodation and airfare, adding that they were taken care of by the committee.

The caterers were Amber’s Food Services, Muni Food Services and Kenkey Boutique.

Testifying before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry yesterday, Mr Darko said the charge covered 15 days of services rendered by the caterers during the trip.

His statement sharply contradicted that of the former Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, who earlier told the committee that each caterer received $5,000 dollars as honorarium.

When asked whether he was aware of the figure by the former minister, the project co-ordinator said he was not aware of the statement made by the ex-minister and insisted each caterer received $17,200.

Before ending his testimony yesterday — his third appearance before the commission—Justice Senyo Dzamefe said, “Well on behalf of the commission, you are discharged for now, but whenever we need you, we shall invite you.”—GNA
