Charles Osei Asibey retains global Armwrestling Vice Presidency

President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and Africa Armwrestling, Mr Charles Osei Asibey, has been re-elected Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF).

His new mandate, confirmed at the 47th WAF Congress in Albena, Bulgaria, will see him continue in office until 2029.

Delegates at the congress unanimously endorsed his nomination, citing his achievements, leadership skills, dedication and global recognition in advancing the sport.

Reacting to his re-election, Mr Osei Asibey said he was determined to push the boundaries of the sport. “I am giddy, elated and poised to influence further the development and promotion of Armwrestling to new heights, leveraging my network to drive growth, innovation, and excellence in the sport,” he stated.

Mr Osei Asibey has played a pivotal role in growing armwrestling in Ghana, Africa and beyond. His election as President of Africa Armwrestling in 2022 and subsequent entry to the WAF board that same year signalled his rising influence. He has since been instrumental in securing the sport’s recognition at the African Games and in shaping its global development agenda.

As Vice President of the world body, he will work closely with the WAF President and executives to expand participation, improve competition standards and drive the sport’s visibility internationally.

His leadership at home has also elevated Ghana’s image in the armwrestling fraternity, with the country poised to play an increasingly important role in the global arena.
