Coach Zito frustrated by Kotoko's results
Asante Kotoko Head Coach, Abdul Karim Zito, has expressed frustration over his side’s growing number of drawn matches, insisting the Porcupine Warriors must start winning if they are to remain firmly in the Premier League title race.
Kotoko were held to a 1–1 draw by Bibiani Gold Stars last Saturday, a result Zito described as unfair given his team’s dominance and the number of chances created.
Speaking after the match, the experienced tactician revealed that his game plan was to secure all three points, though he admitted a draw was not entirely disastrous.
“Our plan was to win the game. Sharing the honours is not a bad result, but considering the chances we created, we deserved to go home with the maximum points,” Zito said.
“The draw is too much. We should score at all costs,” he said.
The stalemate left Asante Kotoko eight points adrift of league leaders Medeama SC, who sit top of the table on 40 points. A victory in Bibiani would have significantly narrowed the gap.
Despite the setback, Zito remained optimistic about Kotoko’s title chances, stressing that the league race was far from over.
“All is not lost. With a bit of hard work, we can still position ourselves for the title,” he added.
“The fans should be patient and prayerful because it’s a marathon race. From first to fifth position, anyone who pushes can win this league,” he stated.
The Kotoko coach also praised the performances of debutants Morifing Donzo and Dogo Yakubu, expressing satisfaction with how quickly they adapted to the team.
“I’m impressed with both Donzo and Dogo. This was Dogo’s first game and he had only trained with us for about four days, yet he fitted in as if he had been with the team for a long time,” Zito noted.
Kotoko will now turn their focus to their next fixture as they seek to convert strong performances into victories and keep their title ambitions alive.
