Commission on Ghana’s World Cup campaign inaugurated

The three-member Commission of Inquiry set up by the President, John Dramani Mahama, to investigate matters relating to the participation of the Black Stars in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil is scheduled to begin work next Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Justice Senyo Dzamefe, a Justice of the Court of Appeal and chairman of the commission, announced this at the inauguration of the commission at the Ministry of Youth and Sports conference hall in Accra.

The  members of the commission, includng lawyer and sports administrator, Moses Foh-Amoaning, and sports enthusiast, Kofi Anokye Owusu Darko, were sworn in by Justice J.B. Akamba, a Supreme Court Judge.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mahama Ayariga, called on the media and the public to assist the Commission to deliver on its terms of reference, which include inquiring into the management of the Black Stars and events in their camp during the tournament.

Justice  Dzamafe stressed that the commission would not hesitate to invite players of the Black Stars if the need arose.

He said: “We are not on a witch-hunt, our work is more inquisitorial than accusatorial. If it becomes necessary to invite a player of the Black Stars we will do that”.

Moses Foh-Amoaning, reminded the media that the commission had powers of a High Court.

The communications director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Saanie Daara, said his outfit was ready to collaborate with the commission to make sure the truth came out.

“We are ready to work with the Commission to make sure the truth finally prevails,” he noted.
