GFA charges Accra Lions with misconduct over social media comments on match officials

Ghana Premier League side, Accra Lions, have been charged with misconduct by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following comments made on the club's social media platforms about match officials.

The charges stem from Accra Lions’ Week 16 league match against Dreams FC on Sunday, January 5, 2025, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Lions.

According to a statement issued by the GFA, the club's social media posts breached Section 34(6)(d) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations, 2019.

“Accra Lions have been charged with a breach of Section 34(6)(d) of the GA Premier League Regulations, 2019, following their Ghana Premier League game against Dreams FC.

"It is alleged that the club's social media commentary on the match officials of the said game constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute," the statement read.

The GFA further clarified that Accra Lions’ posts on X (formerly Twitter) and other social platforms had sparked the misconduct charges, stating they undermined the integrity of the officials and the competition.

Accra Lions have been given until Wednesday, January 8, 2025, to formally respond to the charges.
