GH¢15,000 for FreshPak Women’s League champions

GH¢15,000 for FreshPak Women’s League champions

The winners of this year’s FreshPak National Women’s League will receive a cash prize of GH¢15,000 the Women’s League Board (WLB) has announced.

The amount is about 50 per cent increment from the GH¢10,000 which has been the prize money for the past three seasons.

At a media briefing to review the first round of the Season Six of the NWL, Ms Leanier Addy, the chairperson of the WLB,organisers of the competition, announced that the runners-up would  receive GH¢7,000 while the 16 clubs participating will each receive GH¢10,000 as their share of the sponsorship money.

The rest of the sponsorship cash will go into the organisation of the champions play-off, the individual prizes as well as administration, while the Ghana Football Association (GFA) bears the cost of officiating which is about GH¢260,000.

Ms Addy also revealed the injection of the FreshPak sponsorship into the NWL had brought more excitement and increased the level of competitiveness as the clubs strive to win and be in the final play-off.

Giving an overview of the first round, Ms Addy said generally, the competition had been interesting and competitive, revealing that 140 goals had been scored in the 56 games played, while there had been few cases of fans’ misbehaviour at the match venues.

She reiterated her appeal for more sponsorship to support women’s football.

At the event, the sponsors, FreshPak, also presented ice chests to the clubs to be used on match days.

FreshPak, producers of disposable food and drink storage products and a member of Groupe Nduom, are the headline sponsors having offered a GH¢250,000 a year deal for two seasons.

The clubs were also generally satisfied with how the league had been organised in the first round, while the media, expressed concern over how match officials had impeded their work at some match venues and asked the WLB to resolve the challenge before the second round resumed on the weekend of June 2 and 3.
