During a press conference held yesterday (September 5, 2023) in Accra, the President of the Federation, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, expressed the organization's aspirations for the championship.

He led Ghana's successful bid to host the 45th World Armwrestling Championship, which was approved at the World Congress in Almaty, Kazakhstan, last month and is confident that with the country set to enter more athletes as a result of being host, its medal chances would improve.

Mr. Osei Asibey revealed that the event is expected to draw approximately 2,000 athletes and spectators to Ghana.

Mr. Osei Asibey explained that Ghana's bid won over the delegates at the World Congress, securing the hosting rights ahead of Egypt, due to the promise of delivering a remarkable event at the heart of the world.

In addition to highlighting the significance of this achievement for Ghana, Mr. Osei Asibey, who also serves as the President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa, underscored the positive impact on the sport's development in Ghana and across the African continent.

"This is a significant milestone for Ghana Armwrestling, especially as a relatively young Federation. We will be the first sporting discipline to host a World Championship in Ghana. I am delighted with the progress of the sport, and I anticipate a successful event next year," he stated.

Mr. Osei Asibey emphasized that this event aligns with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's vision to promote Ghana as a tourist destination.

As Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation, Mr. Osei Asibey pointed out that the 2024 World Armwrestling Championship will not only benefit the sport itself but will also bring significant global publicity, offering diverse advantages to Ghana.

Furthermore, he acknowledged the support received from various entities, including Ghana's Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS), the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), the Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC) and the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC).
