Ghana badminton chief gets top global appointment
Ghana Badminton Association (BAG) President Evans Yeboah has been appointed to the Advisory Board and Governing Council of the International Sports Institute (ISI), in recognition of his extensive contributions to sports governance, finance and development across Africa, Europe and Asia over the past two decades.
Mr Yeboah, a Chartered Management Accountant, brings to the role a unique blend of strategic financial expertise and high-level sports administration experience.
He currently serves as the Finance Committee chairman at Badminton Africa, the sport’s continental body, overseeing fiscal planning for 51 national federations, and holds the position of Vice-President of Ghana’s National Paralympic Committee.
His prior role as Chairman of the GOC Finance Committee further underscores his credentials in financial governance and oversight.
In his new capacity, Yeboah – who also chairs the Finance Committee of Badminton Africa and serves as Vice-President of the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana – will advise on critical areas such as financial sustainability in sport, funding models for national federations in Africa and Europe, grassroots development, sports tourism as a driver of economic growth and governance and compliance to enhance transparency in sports administration.
Endorsement
ISI Chairman Professor Oluwaseun Olanrewaju Omotayo, lauded Mr Yeboah’s appointment, stating: “Evans Yeboah’s blend of financial acumen and governance expertise, particularly from an African perspective, will be invaluable.
His role as Chair of Finance for the Africa Badminton Confederation and his academic affiliations as an adjunct lecturer with leading business schools align seamlessly with ISI’s global vision for sustainable sports ecosystems.”
The ISI operates as a global policy and research platform, promoting innovation and sustainable growth within the sports industry.
Mr Yeboah’s 19-year career in accounting and sports administration is anticipated to significantly advance ISI’s strategic initiatives.
Mandate
His initial assignment will involve spearheading ISI’s Sports for Economic Development framework, with pilot initiatives set to commence in Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa.
This effort seeks to integrate sport more effectively into national economic development agendas and enhance the visibility of Africa within global policy discourse.
In a brief remark following his appointment, Mr Yeboah noted: “This is a call to amplify Africa’s voice in global sports policy. I remain committed to promoting equitable resource allocation, empowering youth through sport and supporting the growth of Africa’s sports tourism industry.”
Mr Yeboah, who is the outgoing second Vice-President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has declared his intention to contest the position of Treasurer in the upcoming GOC elections on April 26 and is expected to continue playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of sports administration both within Ghana and across the continent.
