He told the Graphic Sports that the novel competition will take place across the country as part of plans to ensure the growth of the sport both as a competitive and family fun event.

As Secretary General of the African Minigolf Federation (AMSF), whose headquarters is now located in Accra for the next four years, Mr Fattal said he was determined that Ghana started the novel competition which he hoped to become the benchmark for the spread of the sport across the continent.

“Next month we hope to start the world’s first ever minigolf league in Ghana. We want to be pioneers in the sports just as we pioneered with the Mortein Boxing League many years ago.

“Certainly, the world's first minigolf league will tee off at Marvels Minigolf Club at Dzorwulu this December and the top 24 Ghanaian players in the league will be eligible to represent Ghana at next year's international minigolf competitions, such as European Cup in Germany, Nations Cup in Portugal, World Cup in Croatia and World Masters Cup in Kosovo, said Mr Fattal.

“Don't be surprised to see Ghanaian minigolf players wearing proudly and holding high the Ghana flag at upcoming international tournaments.”

The Ghana federation is to oversee the successful hosting of the second African Minigolf delegates summit and first African Minigolf Championships, both to be held in Accra 2018.

Mr Fattal gave an assurance that the Ghana minigolf federation has a strong team of passionate and committed officials at the GMF secretariat located at ridge Accra, ready to roll out and implement their ambitious plans for Ghana and Africa.
