Government to construct 50,000-capacity stadium at Borteyman by 2028 — Sports Minister
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has announced plans to construct a 50,000-capacity stadium at the Borteyman Sports Complex, as part of the government’s broader vision to transform the area into a modern sports city.
Speaking in a radio interview with Citi FM on Wednesday [September 10, 2025], Mr Adams emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges in the sports sector and upgrading facilities to meet international standards.
“We are planning to build a new stadium of that size within the Borteyman Sports Complex because our goal is to develop that entire area into a sports city or village—one capable of hosting international clubs for training and camps,” he said.
He added that the stadium will be accompanied by modern accommodation facilities, which will reduce the national budgetary burden of housing the Black Stars during training camps and tournaments.
“With such a facility, we’ll also provide accommodation. When this is completed, future budgets will no longer include accommodation costs for the Black Stars. We're pursuing this through a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement,” Mr. Adams explained.
He confirmed that the stadium will have a minimum seating capacity of 50,000 and is expected to be completed before 2028.
The project is part of a broader strategy to position Ghana as a leading sports hub in Africa, attract international teams for training camps, and promote sports tourism across the sub-region.
