The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has praised the organisers of the Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) for their sustained impact on sports and tourism, as the event launched its 2025 edition at the University of Ghana Basketball Court on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, commended RITE Sports Services for building a festival that has grown into one of the country’s most influential sports-entertainment events.
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the festival, and organisers have adopted a special “Five Theme” to reflect the milestone. The 2025 edition will feature five African countries, five fashion brands and five musical performances across a five-day programme from 10 to 14 December, making it the longest and most ambitious edition to date.
Speaking at the launch, Abeiku Santana applauded the organisers for strengthening Ghana’s international visibility through sport, culture and entertainment. He said the Ghana Tourism Authority is fully committed to supporting ABF’s growth and expanding its reach.
“We are proud of what the Africa Basketball Festival has achieved over the past five years. RITE Sports Services has created a platform that promotes Ghana to the world, and as the Ghana Tourism Authority, we will support ABF with our full resources,” he said.
He also revealed that the Authority will host all five participating countries on a special “Accra Tour” during the festival. The curated tour will showcase Ghana’s cultural heritage, historical landmarks and tourism sites, deepening the participants’ appreciation of the country and reinforcing Ghana’s emerging status as a sports-tourism destination.
The launch generated significant excitement as organisers previewed what they say will be the most memorable edition yet. The blend of competition, fashion, music and cultural celebration, combined with the anniversary theme and expanded programme, is expected to attract thousands of spectators to the University of Ghana basketball court.
The 2025 Africa Basketball Festival is sponsored by Glico General Insurance, GTS Drilling, Indomie Noodles, GTV Sports Plus, Points Africa, Warrior King Watches, Lamborghini Energy Drink, The Luckiest, Minimie Atsomo, Lush Hair, Verna Water, the Ghana Basketball Association, Nkonkonsa.com, Awuah Sports, Sporty FM, Nescafe and the Ghana Tourism Authority. It is organised by RITE Sports Services and hosted by the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate.
