Hood Games set for April 12

 

 

The third edition of the neighbourhood community sporting competition, dubbed “YSports Hood Games”, will take place on April 12 at the Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra.

The competition pits the youth in local communities in the country against one another in games such as swimming, basketball and five-a-side-soccer.

At the launch of the games in Accra yesterday, Jay Foley, Station Manager of YFM, organisers of the competition, said the programme was to enable the youth in these localities to interact, engage and bring out the best sporting talents in them.

According to him, such talents could also enure to the national cause, adding that this year’s tournament will attract more participants and bigger sponsors with exciting prize packages at stake for winners.

The ceremony also witnessed trophies, medals and certificates being awarded to last year’s winners of the competition. Mataheko, which won the five-a-side football in the previous edition, took home a trophy, a certificate and a medal.

The youth from James Town won the swimming competition and also received a medal, a certificate and a trophy, while Amasaman youth emerged champions in basketball and were presented with a certificate and a medal.

The competition had so far witnessed over 20 localities in Accra participating, including Mamprobi, Nii Boi Town, Chorkor, Tesano, Takoradi, Tema, Abelenkpe, Dodowa, Kaneshie and Akatsi.
