Asante Kotoko have confirmed the transfer of their leading forward, Albert Amoah, to Libyan giants, Al Ahly Benghazi.
Amoah, 23, joined the Porcupine Warriors from Accra Great Olympics last season and played a pivotal role in their campaign. He has also scored five goals across all competitions so far this season.
Although the financial details of the transfer deal remain undisclosed, Kotoko expressed appreciation to the striker for his contributions and wished him well in his new challenge.
“We can confirm the permanent transfer of forward Albert Amoah to the Libyan side, Al Ahly Benghazi. Asante Kotoko is grateful to Albert for his services to the club and his achievements with us. We wish him the very best for the future,” the club announced in a statement.
The club’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, disclosed that the agreement to sell the forward was concluded shortly after their recent Caf confederation match against Wydad Casablanca. He revealed that the short transfer window in Libya compelled the club to act swiftly.
“The agreement [to sell Albert Amoah] was reached after the match [against Wydad]. We had wanted to extend the conversation; unfortunately, the Libyan Federation had to close its registration yesterday, so we had to consider the interest of the player,” he told LUV FM.
Duku further acknowledged that financial considerations also influenced the decision.
“Kotoko needs money to run the club. Some may disagree with us, but if you are into football in Ghana at this stage, you will agree with us,” he added.
