At a colourful ceremony in Accra last week, which attracted some retired stars, coaches and sports administrators, Guinness presented an 18-carat gold Guinness harp insignia and products to the unassuming Stars coach and pledged to support the coach’s dream of setting up a sports academy in Ghana.

Responding to the gesture, Coach Appiah thanked Guinness for its support to the Black Stars over the years, and also for appreciating his work .

Peter Ndegwa, Managing Director of GGBL, said the company was particularly excited because its premium brand, Guinness, - a brand built on quality, passion and the drive to win everywhere - was associated with Appiah who demonstrated the shared qualities.

“Appiah is more than a coach. He is the first local coach to qualify the Black Stars to the FIFA World Cup,” he stated.

Ms Agnes Essah, Marketing Director of GGBL, noted that the company had supported the growth of football in Ghana for more than a decade and had remained a close companion of the game in the country from the domestic front through the African to the global stage.

“We will continue to support Coach Appiah and the Black Stars in their quest to consolidate Ghana’s position on the international football arena,” she assured.
