Kwame Boahene set Medeama on course for victory when he scored the opening goal with a cheeky flick in the 27th amidst a thunderous eruption of celebration from the home supporters.

Fired up by the goal, Medeama turned the heat on the visiting side and increased the lead two minutes later through a brilliant 25-yard free kick by Abass Mohammed.

With their backs to the wall, the frustrated Sudanese players resorted to playing a physical game and attracted a number of cautions from referee Jean Claude Birumushahu in a bid to stamp his authority on the game.

However, all expectation of a goal harvest by Tom Strand’s side fizzled out as complacency took the better part of the players who wasted many scoring opportunities despite dominating the exchanges.  Medeama goalkeeper Muntari Tagoe as virtually on holiday except for a 32nd minute save of a tricky situation.

Attacking midfielders Atta Agyei and Kwasi Donsu also came close to scoring in the second half but lacked the killer instincts to punish the visitors whose attack was eclipsed by the Medeama defence.

In the 53rd minute, Mohammed hit the back of the net again but his celebration was cut short as the referee disallowed the goal for offside positioning.
