Ablakwa on USA World Cup: My leadership shall leverage improved cordial diplomatic relations to guarantee appreciable visa quotas for Ghanaian football fans
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has congratulated the Black Stars for qualifying for the 2026 World Cup being hosted in Canada, USA and Mexico.
In a post on Facebook, the minister stated: "my leadership shall leverage our improved cordial diplomatic relations with the United States, Canada and Mexico to guarantee appreciable visa quotas for our globally acclaimed football fans."
“Ghanaians can be fully assured that the Foreign Ministry under my leadership shall leverage our improved cordial diplomatic relations with the United States, Canada and Mexico to guarantee appreciable visa quotas for our globally acclaimed football fans,” he wrote.
The Black Stars sealed their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 1–0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium — their fifth qualification for football’s biggest tournament.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mohammed Kudus scored the decisive goal early in the second half, ensuring Ghana topped Group I and joined Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia as Africa’s confirmed representatives.
Though Ghana’s performance was not at its most fluid, Otto Addo’s side showed composure and discipline to edge a determined Comoros team and secure another moment of national pride.
The 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico — marking the first time the competition will feature an expanded 48-team format.
