Premier League clubs undergo training ahead of season kick-off on Friday
betPawa, the official sponsor of the Ghana Premier League, has organised a two-day training workshop at the Best Western Hotel in Accra to educate clubs on the processes for accounting and distributing player winning bonuses during league matches.
The initiative, which began yesterday, was designed to streamline the administration of the Locker Room Bonus programme, ensuring transparency and efficiency in verifying and rewarding players.
All Ghana Premier League clubs participated in the training, including Accra Hearts of Oak, Nations FC, FC Samartex 1996, Karela United, Swedru All Blacks, Hohoe United, Medeama SC, Dreams FC, Bibiani Gold Stars, Kpando Heart of Lions, Young Apostles FC, Vision FC, and Basake Holy Stars. Women’s football teams also took part on the second day, undergoing the same processes.
Led by betPawa resource persons and software engineers Erki Alliksoo and Leonardo Noronha, the training introduced clubs to a new digital platform designed to simplify the management of player bonuses. Special email accounts were created for each club to enable the uploading of team line-ups and player details for seamless verification.
According to betPawa, these accounts will allow clubs to efficiently track and verify players eligible for the GH¢400 winning bonus awarded for each match won.
Nii Ashong Katai, a betPawa official, urged clubs to familiarise themselves with the new software to ensure smooth operations and avoid delays or disapprovals in bonus disbursements. “Proper use of this platform will make it easier for both clubs and betPawa to verify player eligibility and ensure timely payments,” Katai emphasised.
The Locker Room Bonus is an ongoing initiative by betPawa to motivate Ghana Premier League players and clubs to deliver their best performances. Under the scheme, players earn GH¢400 for every match their team wins, a policy that has been in place for several seasons and continues to incentivise competitive play.
The workshop reinforced betPawa’s commitment to improving the administrative efficiency of the Ghana Premier League while fostering professionalism and transparency in the management of player incentives. Both men’s and women’s football clubs left the training better equipped to use the new system, ensuring players are rewarded promptly for their on-field successes.
