Takyi vows to prove critics wrong

Olympic bronze medalist, Samuel Takyi, has vowed to prove his critics wrong when he takes on experienced, Victor Kuwornu, in a national lightweight championship bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena on December 30.

Takyi believed time was ripe for him to prove his critics wrong by winning the national championship convincingly during the festive season.

Biggest test
The 21-year-old is expected to take the biggest test of his young pro career which began in April  this year by facing the more experienced Kuwornu (11-1, 8 KOs).
“I am ready to fight anybody at lightweight because I know my capabilities and what I can do in the ring,” Takyi said at a press conference in Accra yesterday.
“I am going to win on December 30 to start next year on a bright note. That is the focus and the plan and I can’t wait for that day.”

Upset
In his response, Kuwornu said he was determined to win the national strap on his second attempt, having lost it to Richard Fenyi last April.
He said he was prepared to hand Takyi his maiden pro career defeat at the end of the month as he seeks to revive his dwindling career.

“Takyi should look out for me in the ring because I’m coming in to cause an upset,” Kuwornu warned.

“I want to revive my career and it will be important to do that by handing a prospect like Samuel Takyi his first career defeat,” he stressed.

Pairing of best boxers
For his part, the president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Abraham Kotei Neequaye, called on other promoters to emulate Bazooka Promotions and Boxing Syndicate by pairing the best boxers to fight.
He called on both fighters to give of their best on the night to help sell Ghana boxing to the world.
“I’m glad to see this bout happening because we want promoters and trainers to allow their fighters to take on the best so they can be well prepared for the world stage.

“This is going to be a great fight and I want to urge both boxers to give of their best to sell Ghana boxing to the world,” Mr Neequaye explained.
