VIDEO: Tariq Lamptey’s Late strike salvages point for Brighton against Aston Villa

Ghanaian defender Tariq Lamptey proved his attacking prowess once again, scoring a vital equaliser in Brighton’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa in a thrilling Premier League encounter.

Lamptey, who has been a standout performer for the Seagulls, found the back of the net in the 81st minute with a precise low shot that left Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez helpless. The goal marked his second of the season and ended Brighton’s seven-match winless streak in the league.  

Brighton had initially taken the lead through Simon Adingra’s beautifully curled effort, but Villa turned the game around with Ollie Watkins converting a penalty and later assisting Morgan Rogers for a second-half strike. However, Lamptey’s late heroics ensured Brighton walked away with a hard-fought point.  

The Ghanaian international’s performance highlighted his versatility and attacking contributions, adding to his growing reputation in the Premier League. Lamptey’s ability to exploit defensive lapses was evident as he capitalised on poor marking by Villa’s backline to score the equaliser.  

Villa’s defensive struggles were again exposed, as they have now conceded 11 goals in the last 15 minutes of matches this season—more than any other side in the league.  

Brighton, managed by Fabian Hurzeler, showed resilience during the closing stages but have now drawn their last three league matches, leaving them in 10th place. The team’s last victory came against Bournemouth on 23 November, and they face the daunting task of hosting title challengers Arsenal on January 4.  

Lamptey, 24, continues to shine as a crucial player for Brighton, combining his defensive duties with significant attacking contributions. His performances have been a bright spot in an otherwise inconsistent campaign for the Seagulls.
