Young Gedo steals show in table tennis league
Kwanyako-based young Ibrahim Gedo stole the show at last Saturday's national table tennis league at the D.G Hathiramani Sports Hall as Team Coach Addo won the men’s doubles event.
Gedo, 12, and a left-handed, gave a dazzling show as he paired with a fellow senior player of Team Coach Addo to beat the duet from Madina Stars in the men's doubles to the amazement of all.
Swinging, smashing and spinning with fore and back hands, including pimple, the lad who is competing at the senior level combined effectively to give a 3-1 victory for his team over Madina Stars.
On the day, however, Tesano Spinners stunned Immigration to take over the top of the ladder.
League leaders and defending champions had a tough time last Saturday after suffering their first defeat in the league against Nigerian blend Tesano Spinners.
Top seeds Derek Abrefa and Felix Lartey both lost their singles’ matches against Ahmed Bello(3-1), and Rilwan Akimbi (3-2), respectively.
The league leaders, however, won the doubles but came up short of ascending to the ladder as they lost 1-2.
In the rest of the matches for the day Team Coach Addo beat Madina Stars 3-1, Army beat Ashaiman Club 3-0, Team Baboo 3-1 while Otumfuo Stars lost 1-3 to Police before GRA thrash Loopers 3-0.
Kings Royal Academy also beat Fire Service 3-1 while Navy thrashed Western Club 3-0.
In the second round of matches , Immigration beat Madina Stars 3-0, Army lost 0-3 to Spinners, Coach Addo beat Team Baboo 3-2 and Otumfuo Stars thrashed Ashaiman Club 3-0.
The rest are Police who beat Loopers 3-2, EMEFs defeated Navy 3-1, Kings Royal Academy beat Western Club 3-0 and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) beat Fire 3-1.
In the ladies division, Spinners, with two Nigerian imports, namely Fatimo Bello and Bose Odunfanya, beat EMEFs 3-0 to stay atop the ladder with nine points, Madina Club defeated Otumfuo Stars 3-2, GRA beat Western 3-0 and Immigration won 3-2/against Police.
