The Provincial Grand Lodge South-East under the Grand Lodge of Ghana (GLOG) has supported two health institutions in the country to help the government stop the spread of the coronavirus ( COVID-19) pandemic and other diseases such as malaria.

The beneficiary health institutions are Princess Marie-Louise Hospital in Accra and the Atua Government Hospital at Odumase-Krobo.

While the structures including the wards of the Princess Marie-Louise Hospital was renovated, the Atua Government Hospital benefited from a personal protective equipment (PPEs) to help fight against COVID-19.

Charity activities

A press release issued by the Lodge on July 27 in Accra quoted the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, Brother Dzifa French Cudjoe, of saying that the support form part of the Lodge's 2019-2020 annual charity activity and the GLOG’s assistance to public health institutions in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.

It said the renovation at the hospital involved the replacement of the entire mosquito netting of the hospital wards, offices and installation of six units of Insect-O-Cutor electronic flying insect killing devices.

The project aimed at supporting the fight of government in curbing the malaria menace to the population and particularly to children who, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), are the first victims of this scourge, with over one million of them dying from the disease each year.

PPEs support

The release also said the Very Worshipful Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Brother Godson Adadevoh, led an eight-member Delegation of the Provincial Grand Lodge South-East to the Atua Government Hospital at Odumase-Krobo, to donate a set of PPEs to the hospital in order to assist in its fight against the pandemic

The donation was in response to a distress call from the hospital authorities some few weeks ago for such an assistance.

The release quoted Brother Adadevoh of congratulating the management and staff of the hospital for their sacrifice and resilience as frontline workers in combatting the pandemic,

It added that the entire country owes them, and indeed all medical workers across the country.

The items donated included: two boxes of AK 57 – Catherine (surgical masks), five cartons of Latex medical examination gloves (containing 1000 gloves each), five boxes of KN 95 face masks (containing 40 pieces each), and three infrared thermometers.

Gratitude

The Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Hospital, Reverend Father Nii Lantey Campbell, expressed the gratitude of the management and staff of the hospital to the Lodge for its timely support, which coincided with the 95th anniversary of the establishment of Princess Marie-Louise Hospital, so named after the Granddaughter of Queen Victoria.

He described the support as “a noble and worthy gesture”, and urged the Lodge to continue supporting the hospital to enable it pursue quality healthcare service delivery to needy families within its catchment area.
