Advans Ghana earns global recognition for client protection standards
Advans Ghana Savings and Loans has secured international recognition for its client-focused operations after being awarded the Silver Level Client Protection Certification by Microfinance Rating (MFR).
The certification, supported by Proparco, was presented at a ceremony held at the institution’s Newtown Branch in Accra on March 26, 2026, attended by board members, management, staff and the media.
The recognition follows a rigorous independent assessment of the company’s policies, systems and operational practices, measuring compliance with global standards on fair treatment of clients, responsible lending, transparent pricing, data protection and complaint resolution.
Chief Executive Officer of Advans Ghana, Guillaume Valence, described the achievement as a validation of the institution’s commitment to ethical banking and customer trust.
“This certification is a reflection of who we are and what we stand for. Our clients deserve a financial partner they can trust — one that is transparent, fair, and genuinely invested in their progress. This certification confirms that we are holding ourselves to that standard, and we are proud to have it formally recognised,” he said.
Advans Ghana now joins a select group of microfinance institutions across Africa and beyond that have attained the certification, positioning the company among industry players adhering to internationally recognised client protection principles.
From a group perspective, the Head of Risk and Audit at Advans Group, Laurent Clauser, noted that the certification reflects a broader commitment to embedding client protection across all operations within the network.
“Client centricity is part of the DNA of the Advans Group. Ghana is one of three country subsidiaries that have now received the Client Protection Certification — Tunisia achieved Gold level, while Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire have both been awarded Silver. This is a proud moment for the Group, and we are determined to ensure that all six of our country operations achieve certification. We will not stop until every Advans client, wherever they are, is served to the highest standard of client protection,” he stated.
Board Chairperson, Eli Hini, also underscored the broader significance of the milestone, linking it to the institution’s role in national development and financial inclusion.
“Our clients are not just customers — they are partners in Ghana’s economic development. This certification is a public declaration of the standards we hold ourselves to, and a commitment to every person who walks through our doors that they will be treated with fairness, respect, and integrity. We hope this inspires a higher standard of client care across the entire microfinance industry,” he said.
The certification is expected to have direct implications for clients, particularly micro and small-scale entrepreneurs who rely on the institution’s services. It affirms commitments to responsible lending practices, prevention of over-indebtedness, transparent pricing structures and secure handling of personal data, alongside accessible channels for complaints and redress.
The development comes at a time when Ghana’s microfinance sector continues to grapple with issues of trust and regulatory compliance, despite its critical role in expanding access to financial services for underserved populations.
Industry observers say the recognition sets a benchmark for responsible practice and could encourage wider adoption of client protection standards across the sector.
Advans Ghana, which has operated in the country since 2008 as part of the Advans Group, provides savings and loan products tailored to micro and small enterprises, with a focus on supporting livelihoods and business growth.
