ASANA Bar and Kitchen opens at Kempinski Accra

Accra’s luxury hospitality scene has welcomed a refined new addition with the official opening of ASANA Bar and Kitchen, an Asian-Ghanaian fusion restaurant nestled within the prestigious Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City.

The venue was unveiled during an exclusive two-day launch attended by high-profile personalities, diplomats, and some of Ghana’s most influential food and lifestyle tastemakers. Offering a bold yet balanced culinary experience, ASANA combines Eastern culinary finesse with rich Ghanaian influences, positioning itself as a new epicurean destination in the capital.

This visionary initiative was conceived by the Executive Director of Accra City Hotel, whose passion for heritage and innovation continues to redefine the hospitality landscape in Ghana.

Special commendation also goes to The House of Heritage Ghana for expertly curating the captivating art installations, which have transformed the hotel into a compelling and authentic cultural showcase.

Located adjacent to the hotel’s iconic spiral staircase, the stylish venue seats up to 104 guests and boasts both indoor and outdoor settings. The design fuses contemporary luxury with natural elements, featuring lush palms, ambient lighting and a signature white marble 360-degree bar accented by vibrant red stools.

“Every dish at ASANA tells a story,” said Felix Otte, Director of Food & Beverage at Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra. “Our culinary team has taken great care to balance bold, familiar Ghanaian tastes with subtle Asian nuances. It is a fusion that is exciting, yet deeply respectful of both cultures.”

The menu offers a creative selection of small plates and signature dishes. Highlights include the Watermelon Gochujang starter—a play on a local favourite dessert fruit combined with avocado mousse and chilli vinaigrette—alongside dishes such as Baked Miso Salmon and Pork Bulgogi Quesadillas. A yam-based sorbet dessert also adds a distinctly Ghanaian touch to the global menu.

In celebration of both the restaurant's launch and the hotel’s 10-year anniversary, ASANA introduced a signature cocktail named Afe Du—meaning “Ten Years” in Twi. Developed by the restaurant’s mixology team, the drink symbolises a fusion of local ingredients with international spirits, capturing the essence of ASANA’s cross-cultural identity.

The bar area offers guests a relaxed space to enjoy expertly curated cocktails, while the open-air restaurant section provides tranquil views of the hotel’s cascading waterfall and the lush Cedar Garden. Beyond the cuisine and setting, it is the attentiveness of the staff that truly distinguishes the ASANA experience.

“The waiters and bartenders are trained not just in service, but in storytelling,” said General Manager Hanno Barkhoff. “They can explain each dish, recommend pairings, and share the inspiration behind every item. ASANA represents the culmination of a decade of delivering exceptional moments to our guests.”

Mr Barkhoff described the restaurant as more than just a culinary venture. “It is not just a bar or an à la carte restaurant but a reflection of who we are as a hotel and how we continuously evolve our food and beverage offerings,” he added.
