The Minister of Aviation, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah made this known at the inauguration of the Aviation-Tourism Joint Technical Committee in Accra on Wednesday.
She said aviation was an important mode of transport for tourism markets, adding that in modern times, air travel has always been the dominant mode for long distance travel and international tourism.
She said it was therefore necessary for the two ministries to consciously work together as major stakeholders to unlock the tourism potentials of the country and make it the preferred destination for local and international tourists through an effective transport system.
Madam Dapaah said some sites and lands for the possible development of helipads and airstrips have been visited by the two ministers and that the setting up of the Aviation-Tourism Joint Technical Committee was to enable them work collaboratively to identify prospects in the sector and how to maximize the full potential of the industry.
She said the joint technical committee, therefore, have a crucial role to play to help harness the potential of the aviation-tourism industry in Ghana to generate employment, improve economic growth and make the country the preferred destination of choice for travelers.
