Databank not endorsed as Bond Market Specialist — Finance Ministry, BoG
The Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Bank of Ghana (BoG) have dismissed claims that Databank has been endorsed as a Bond Market Specialist (BMS) for the government.
The disclaimer drew attention to an official notice issued by the BoG on February 10, 2026, bearing Notice Number BOG/FMD/2026/08, which contained the revised and authoritative list of Primary Dealers (PDs) and BMSs approved by both institutions.
According to the official notice, six institutions have been designated as BMSs for the issuance of government bonds through the book-building process.
These are ABSA Ghana Limited, Stanbic Bank, CalBank PLC, GCB Bank, One Africa Securities Ltd, and Fincap Securities. Databank does not feature them.
The notice further listed 15 institutions as authorised Primary Dealers, including Ecobank Ghana, ABSA Ghana Limited, Stanbic Bank, Fidelity Bank Ghana, Standard Chartered Bank, Societe Generale, Strategic African Securities, Laurus Africa, One Africa Securities Ltd, GCB Bank, ARB-Apex Bank, Fincap Securities, CBG Bank, CALBank and Constant Capital Ltd.
Officials emphasised that the review of the Primary Dealer system was conducted jointly and transparently, and the published list should guide all market activity.
They cautioned that misinformation about institutional roles, particularly one as competitive as BMS designation, could mislead investors, distort market behaviour, and undermine confidence in government securities.
The BoG and the MoF therefore urged banks, non-bank financial institutions, and the general public to rely strictly on verified, official communication, stressing that any contrary claims should be disregarded entirely.
