GCB Bank surges GH¢2.07, MTN Ghana adds GH¢0.14 as GSE hits fourth consecutive gain

The Ghana Stock Exchange recorded its fourth consecutive session of gains on Thursday, with the GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) climbing 136.77 points to close at 13,667.02, as investors continued to pile into banking and telecommunications stocks.

Trading data for the 7,192nd session, held on April 16, 2026, showed sustained bullish momentum across the bourse, with the GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) adding 26 points to settle at 8,072.42.

Market capitalisation expanded to GH¢258.87 billion, up from Wednesday's GH¢256.44 billion, reflecting continued wealth creation on the Accra bourse.

Total volume of shares traded for the session reached 1,441,363, with aggregate value hitting GH¢7,110,155.03.

GCB Bank leads gainers with stellar rally

GCB Bank PLC (GCB) delivered an outstanding performance, surging by GH¢2.07 to close at GH¢28.89, making it the session's standout performer. The banking heavyweight attracted significant investor interest, with 6,500 shares changing hands.

Scancom PLC (MTNGH) continued its impressive run, adding GH¢0.14 to close at GH¢5.93. The telecommunications giant remained the most actively traded counter, with 783,998 shares changing hands, contributing GH¢4,648,146.61 to total market value. The closing bid price of GH¢5.95 and offer price of GH¢6.10 suggest further upside potential.

Clydestone (Ghana) PLC (CLYD) rose by GH¢0.12 to close at GH¢1.44, while Societe Generale Ghana PLC (SOGEGH) edged up GH¢0.01 to GH¢5.33. SIC Insurance Company PLC (SIC) added GH¢0.02 to GH¢4.14, and Ecobank Transnational Inc. (ETI) gained GH¢0.04 to GH¢1.92.

Cal Bank PLC (CAL) added GH¢0.02 to close at GH¢0.79, with 432,081 shares traded—the second-highest volume of the session.

Benso Palm Plantation and Access Bank lead decliners

Benso Palm Plantation PLC (BOPP) recorded a sharp decline, shedding GH¢10.00 to close at GH¢90.00, ending its historic run above the GH¢100 mark. Access Bank Ghana PLC (ACCESS) plunged by GH¢3.78 to close at GH¢34.03.

Enterprise Group PLC (EGL) dipped GH¢0.05 to GH¢11.34, while Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC (RBGH) edged down GH¢0.03 to GH¢4.43.

NewGold (GLD) added GH¢0.01 to close at GH¢502.80, with 897 units traded, contributing GH¢451,011.50 to total market value.
