Ghana’s Agric Minister to lead delegation to Canada-Ghana Agribusiness Summit

Ghana’s Minister of Agriculture, Eric Opoku, will travel to Saskatoon, Canada, in July to attend the Canada-Ghana Agribusiness Summit as Guest of Honour, organisers have announced.

The summit, set to take place from July 14 to 15 at Innovation Place in Saskatchewan, is a collaboration between Global Entrepreneurship Network-Ghana (GEN-Ghana) and Voazok Agritours Inc., aimed at fostering cross-border agricultural innovation, investment, and collaboration.

The event is expected to gather agribusiness leaders, investors, policymakers, and entrepreneurs from both countries, with the goal of strengthening bilateral ties and transforming agricultural value chains through technology and sustainable practices.

According to a statement issued by the organisers, the summit will explore several core themes, including agricultural value chain development, agro-processing, agri-tech innovation, market access and trade facilitation, and climate resilience. Activities will include keynote addresses, panel discussions, business matchmaking sessions, exhibitions, and practical workshops.

Eric Opoku described the summit as “a timely opportunity to strengthen Ghana’s partnership with Canada in promoting modern and inclusive agribusiness.” He noted that the forum aligns with the government's broader agenda for agricultural transformation. “By leveraging the potential of agribusiness, we can stimulate economic growth, enhance food security, and alleviate poverty, ultimately fostering a more prosperous future for both our nations through enhanced trade and collaboration in the agriculture sector,” he said.

Ghana’s delegation will include officials from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, private sector players, agri-tech entrepreneurs, and investors. The summit also offers a platform for Ghanaian agribusinesses to showcase products and pursue strategic partnerships in Canada’s agricultural sector.

GEN-Ghana, a local affiliate of the Global Entrepreneurship Network headquartered in Washington, is leading the Ghanaian coordination. The organisation has been instrumental in promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, and cross-border collaboration in Ghana’s startup ecosystem.

Voazok Agritours Inc., based in Canada, specialises in technical agricultural tours and agri-trade missions, focusing on building partnerships between Canadian and African agribusiness stakeholders.

The summit is expected to result in actionable investment initiatives and capacity-building programmes that support farmers, boost exports, and accelerate the adoption of technology across Ghana’s agricultural landscape.
