Govt, TP tackles youth unemployment with 5,000 digital jobs

The government is collaborating with TP, a global firm in digital outsourcing solutions, to engage the services of over 5,000 young professionals in the country’s digital economy this year.

The initiative is part of efforts to tackle youth unemployment in the country under the proposed 24-hour economy policy of the current government.

Towards that, the digital outsourcing solutions provider has unveiled a new branch in Accra to generate new jobs in the digital space for Ghanaian youth.

Bringing to three the number of operating sites established by the company in the country to continue supporting Ghana’s growing digital economy.

The initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation (MoCDTI) as part of its strategic vision to transform Ghana’s job market.

The launch of the new operating office was attended by Chief Executive Officer and Founder of TP, Daniel Julien; the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of TP, Thomas Mackenbrock; Country Director of TP Ghana, Elhadi Bencherif; CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Simon Madjie; and CEO of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL), Dzifa Gunu.

Ambitious plan 

Mr Mackenbrock in his opening address, stated that the company’s ambitious plans to hire over 5,000 young professionals nationwide. 

With a partnership that aligns perfectly with the country’s efforts to curb unemployment, he said the TP was ready to support a conducive business environment.

He said the firm’s rapid growth—from launching with just 36 employees in January 2022 to now employing over 1,300 individuals across two active locations was a testament of the ambitious plan.

He added that with operations in more than 95 countries and a global workforce nearing half a million, TP sees Ghana as a key part of its African growth strategy.

Transformation 

Mr Bencherif said the company was proud to transform its small operation in the country into a thriving entity with the support of its leadership, and management.

“This is the accomplishment of a three-year work with TP, Change and Brand, with TP, with the leadership, with Thomas, with our leadership, with Augusto, with everyone. 

“We are really proud to see that a small operation in Ghana is now covered by the blessings and the love from our management, our leadership, but also by the authorities in Ghana. So, we feel like now nothing can stop us and 10,000 is just a number,” he said. 

Collaboration 

Mr Madjie, who praised the collaboration between the ministry and TP Ghana, explained that the partnership was a major step in the government’s 24-hour economy initiative. 

He expressed optimism that the initial 5,000 jobs could double in the near future.

For his part, the CEO of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL), Dzifa Gunu, said public-private partnership reaffirms the importance in achieving the government’s broader goal of creating sustainable employment opportunities for the country’s youth.
